Arachu Vitta Sambar Recipe


This unique and different sambar recipe made up using toor and chana dal both along with vegetables like drumsticks, onion, tomatoes, spices, etc. This brings quite a different taste from the typical sambar recipe. Do try this simple and amazing Arachu Vitta Sambar Recipe at home.

Ingredients Required:-

Chopped Tomatoes - 2
Toor Dal (Yellow Lentil) - 1 Cup
Drumsticks - ½ Cup
Chopped Onion - 1
Tamarind (Extracted Juice) - ½ Cup
Turmeric Powder - ½ Tsp
Salt - To Taste
Chana Dal (Bengal Gram) - ½ Cup
Whole Red Chillies - 6
Desiccated Coconut - 3 Tbsp
Coriander Seeds - 1 Tsp
Methi Seeds( Fenugreek) - 1 Tsp
Oil - As Required
Sambar Powder - 1 Tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp
Turmeric Powder - ½ Tsp
Methi (Fenugreek Seeds) - 1 Tsp
Urad Dal - 2 ½ Tsp
Curry Leaves - Few

Methods to cook sambar:-

1) First, wash and soak the dal. Then boil it in a pressure cooker until 4 whistles.
2) Once done, then mash it nicely and put it aside.
3) Take a pan and heat the oil. Add all the dry Ingredients and saute them 2-3 minutes on medium flame.
4) Then let them cool and make a fine paste in a grinder using water. And keep them aside.
5) Then cook drumsticks with turmeric powder in some water until they become soft.
6) In another pan, heat the oil, then add onions and saute them until they little brown in colour. Then add tomato, powder ingredients and ground masala along with water.
7) Then add toor dal, drumsticks and tamarind extracted juice. Give them a good mix. After adding 2 cups of water continue to cook for a further 20 minutes on medium heat.
8) In another pan, add 2 tbsp of oil. Heat oil is heated then add all seasoning ingredients. Stir fry until they start to crackle.
9) At last, mix seasoning into the sambar mixture and serve hot.
